‘NHTS stands for Natural Health Teaching Services and was registered as a Section 21 company not for gain. The Founding members represent 20 Modalities of Practice in the field of Natural Health.  They are represented either as associations or schools for: Aura Soma, Directed Pressure Point Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Shiatsu, Kinesiology, Bowen Technique, Brain Gym, Footology, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Wholism Healing, Life Alignment, Body Talk, Reiki, Herbology, Iridology, Postural Integration, Tellington Touch, Aquatic Bodywork, Biodanza, Equine & Animal Natural Healing Touch. We will constantly be inviting new associations and schools to join us,’ says Michela Collett.

2007 was all about workshopping a method of streamlining training so that the title Natural Health Practitioner could be used as a generic title upon graduation.  This has been achieved and will be administered from a database oriented website.  Practitioners who can meet the following four criteria can obtain a listing and an endorsement from the NHTS.  The criteria are:

1. Satisfy NHTS that you hold a certification in a Natural Health specialisation statutory or non-statutory.
2. Complete the core courses specified by NHTS. They are:
        1. The NHTS Context of Natural Health Practice
        2. Consulting and interpersonal skills
        3. Bookkeeping - taxes & finances
        4. Client record keeping
        5. Presentation of Research Studies
        6. Cultural Studies
        7. Ethics and values
        8. Business and entrepreneurial skills
        9. Principles of Nutrition
       10. Self-care for the NHTS Practitioner
3. State your availability to clients on the NHTS website, full time or part time (half days, evenings or weekends).
4. Uphold the NHTS Approach, which is: ‘NHTS Practitioners undertake to facilitate their process of aligning a living being with it's "natural intelligenc" on a physical, emotional, mental and/or etheric level. Both ancient and modern techniques are used in these processes.’

Due to the fantastic advances in website technology the NHTS is in a position to act as a recorder of objectives achieved in all the above training including specialisations and personal growth courses and therefore able to recognise the prior learning of practitioners in the field and those of students still in training. This enables us to create a transparent record of a person's abilities so that members of the public can truly appreciate what goes into the attainment of the title Natural Health Practitioner and into the attainment of certifications in the various specialisations.

It is our aim to have Natural Health Practitioner signboards on every corner in South Africa, making this industry very much part of choosing the natural option in terms of taking care of your health issues.

NHTS aims at promoting the use of Natural Health practitioners, personal growth workshops with teachers in our profession and the pursuit of a career in this industry as primary to its aims.  We wish to do this via magazines, our website, our boards, TV programs, festivals and newspapers.

We know that unity in our industry needs to be balanced with maintenance and promotion of individual uniqueness. We will maintain the personal touch and continue to support the development and introduction of new methods and ideas.
